Pets are cute, cuddly companions. For some of us they can even be considered our children and we refer to them as our “fur babies.” Their pictures are saved as our screen savers, the background to our phones, and they may even be included in our family portraits. We love them just as much as any one of our family members, sometimes maybe even a little more (but that’s a secret best kept between us and our pets).

Do you happen to own a dog or a cat? Did you recently purchase one or receive one as a gift?  If you have answered yes to either of these questions, it is important for you to review this with your insurance agent preferably and if possible, before you purchase your new fluffy friend.

If you have a home, renters, or condo insurance policy then you need to take a moment to review specific information about your pet(s) with your agent.  Your insurance carrier may have guidelines pertaining to pet(s) related to things like the breed of your pet, whether or not your dog has completed an AKC certificate training program, and other things that may need to be on file. If your type/breed of pet falls outside of the guidelines set forth in your insurance policy then you may have a coverage issue if a claim occurs from an incident with your pet. Reviewing your pets with your insurance agent will also tell you if you have the right coverage options and endorsements protecting you and your pet.

If any of the above happens to resonate with you and your household, please feel free to reach out to one of our FBinsure agents, and we would be happy to assist you with making sure you have the appropriate coverage and are meeting the criteria for all of your policies.
