We have heard from employers time and time again when they begin discussing Workers’ Compensation that “There’s nothing you can do about it”, “Here in Massachusetts the rates are set by the state”, “It’s out of our control”.  Well nothing could be further from the truth.  There is something you can do about it.  First you need to find a good broker who has expertise specific to the workers’ compensation injury.  In the absence of a good broker, find a consultant who is willing to come in and work with you to determine the things you can do.  If you follow our guidelines laid out in this series, that alone will be helpful in helping you.  Some things you can do include:

  • Manage your experience modification to make sure that it is correct.
  • Make sure you are managing your claims and managing your injuries because these things are going to have an impact on your experience modification.

The effort that you put into managing all of these things, as an employer will come back to you tenfold both in employee productivity and in your bottom line profitablility.
